About us

Founded in 2011 by Hipólita Siqueira and Carlos Antônio Brandão, the Research Group Space and Power is based at the Institute of Urban and Regional Planning and Research of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (IPPUR/UFRJ).

The group’s goal is to train qualified human resources, integrating undergraduate and graduate education, research, and outreach within the themes of development processes and planning, with a focus on the dimensions of power (economic and political) and space.

Comprised of professors, graduate, and undergraduate students from IPPUR, its members participate in working groups within the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO) and are members of the Latin American Network for Socioeconomic and Spatial Development (REDSLA).
