The book is the result of the research project titled "Territorial Inequalities and Public Services: The State of Rio de Janeiro in the Context of Smart Cities." Its central purpose is to critically debate the discourses and models of smart cities disseminated in academic and political fields, contrasting these proposals with Brazilian socioeconomic complexities and spatially situating the debates, with a focus on municipalities and the state of Rio de Janeiro. The book's goal is to conduct a critical analysis of the discourses, policies, and projects for smart cities, advancing the debate on some implementation experiences and presenting insurgent alternatives developed socially, taking into account the Brazilian context of the historical consolidation of socio-spatial inequality.
